So forgive me if I am being a little obtuse, but if you can answer the following questions, it will clarify the picture for me. By reviewing your attached photo, the narrow cartridge is an HP Photo 564 cartridge while teh wider ones are HP Black 564 cartridges. However, I wasn’t 100% certain whether he was simply referring to the cartridges or the ink type. I appreciate that Dragon-Fur stated “Photo Black and Regular Black are not the same thing and are not interchangeable.” And I see that the cartridges are of different sizes and therefore not interchangeable. For example Epson dye based inks are not compatible with my HP.)

(It seems it is not simply a case of buying either dye based inks or pigment based inks as there are different types of each, depending on the inkjet printer types/methods of printing. I believe that pigment based inks are used on the basis that they give a longer print life/do not fade as soon as dye based inks, or at least that was the traditional way of thinking. Hopefully someone can confirm this is correct.

I understand that the BLACK ink is PIGMENT based and the CYM and PHOTO BLACK are DYE BASED inks. So first, my printer is HP Photosmart 7520 All in one. I am thinking of buying refillable cartridges so am looking into CISS ink suppliers.īut first, I want to ensure I get the correct type of ink for my printer as there are plenty of horror stories out there of printers/printheads being ruined by cheap or poor quality inks.   • Make sure these are flush with the cartridge body, if not carefully trim them flush. There are four orange plastic spots, left over from the protective cap. Turn it over and examine the area around the ink port.

    When I do a search on the hp site to find a 'replacement 567 black setup cartridge' I am taken to the page listed below. The above replies did not give me a clear answer about what cartridge to replace the original with. We can still print with black, but think it is weird that the slim cartridge does not have a replacement.Īll the replacement color cartridges, including those marked xL are slim cartridges and fit easily in their assigned slots.Īre we to continue to print keeping the setup cartridge in place and empty? What are you suppose to put in that slot? We use the HP564 and the HP564 xL cartridges in the far right slot and have never used photo cartridges. I have tried some of the suggestions on line but it has not helped. I even tried a new cartridge and it still happened. The other 4, cyan, magenta, yellow and photo are working. All the replacement black ink cartridges (HP564) are too fat for the far left slot that housed the setup cartridge. All of a sudden the black 564 stopped printing. I too have a HP 7520 e-All In One Printer and our setup ink has run out.
